My vehicle weighs 2.6 tons but i was fined for driving over bridge with 3 ton weight limit am i in the wrong?

How much and what type of load you were carrying may have been estimated by the officer to been over the limit. You may have been smarter to go to the nearest scale, they would have given you a true weight with a time stamp on it that would have matched the time on the fine.
