My boyfriend does not pay for expenses, apart from that we are fine. do i stay with him?

my boyfriend does not pay for expenses. he does the odd big job occasionally and he's never really brought home the pay. he is struggling with heroine addiction. when he left to do a job the other day on his way back home i told him not to bother coming home until he brings home the pay. (apart from the money situation i do love this man, he says he loves me and helps around the house etc) after i put my foot down, he told me to get f'd. i feel strong for standing up to him though i'm scared of finding out he has just used me after 7yrs by not coming back or im hoping he'll realise what he's lost and come begging. i text him twice that evening after he hung up & no reply. it is almost 2days after and no contact. i feel terrible, maybe i was too hard, i hope he's ok. do u think he'll be back with his pay? as people say money shouldn't come between people in a relationship, have i done the wrong thing or the right thing. any advice?
