How could i help my friend stop his addiction?

i have this friend and he has this terrible addiction he wants to get rid of but he dosent know i know i want to tip in some advice on how to stop what he is doing! what is some advice? how would he stop his horrible addiction? ps. its not drugs or cutting or any thing along those line. pss. its not illigual
